How it all started…
My career has been diverse, to say the least.
From Assistant Manager of an upmarket hotel in Chelsea, London; Finance Manager of an Employment Agency in Alice Springs; Tour Guide Writer to Executive Assistant of the Chief Winemaker in a global wine company – let’s just say I have garnered a unique perspective on business and what drives success.
As an early adopter of social media, I saw the huge potential social media offered business to listen, connect and engage direct with their consumers.
There was no rule book or best practices back then. So as a hobby I taught myself, read everything possible and just learned by trial and error.
This was all while I was working for a global wine business.
After a while I got fed up of hearing social media and indeed digital was a fad and I didn’t have the experience to manage digital marketing strategies for wine brands, so I ditched the wine job and realized my dream by launching my own boutique (read one person show) creative agency – bizeez communications in 2010.
As any small business owner will confess, launching a new business is tough. There have been many set backs along the way.
Trying to gain credibility in the emerging field of digital marketing definitely wasn’t easy, nor was trying to find the right fit to build a creative team.
The biggest hurdle though has been a personal one.
On Christmas Day 2014, I suffered an Ischemic Stroke and have had to relearn many things such as walking correctly, typing and just doing normal everyday things for myself.
Thankfully, while in recovery I was able to keep running bizeez communications and communicate via the online world. This kept me sane and helped me keep looking ahead – I also spent many hours researching new ideas and technologies.
As you might have noticed, I’m a glass half full sort of gal!
I’m back running my business from the office in the Barossa Valley, South Australia.
My days are spent immersed in crafting and implementing marketing strategies, brainstorming engaging communications and social media campaigns, as well as conducting workshops and coaching programs to enlighten hospitality, tourism, food and wine business owners and marketers on the ever evolving techniques and key tools on offer to connect, engage and grow business online.
Over the past six years I’ve had the pleasure of assisting some fabulous people from restaurateurs, winemakers, chefs and tourism operators. Many were just exhausted and overwhelmed business owners, possibly like yourself.
What’s more when I look back now I think – WOW! I’m so glad I never listened to those naysayers in 2009 who just didn’t think that social media or digital marketing would ever be important for business.
So that’s me.
